经过全身检查，将小杰的样本于8月21日送检广州，直到8月24日当天诊断才有了结果，小杰被确诊为急性淋巴细胞白血病。医生要求小杰父母立即为孩子办理住院，后续将接受漫长的周期性化疗。医生告诉老郑夫妻俩：白血病治疗需要经过化疗、移植、抗排等过程，治疗至少三年以上，前期治疗至少花费在5000万左右。老郑表示：孩子的人生才刚开始，自己绝不能轻易放弃，希望医生能竭尽所能挽救儿子的生命。治疗期间，家里拿出了全部积蓄，还欠下了不少外账，小杰的治疗无法终止，费用是迫在眉睫的问题。
